B. Bryan Wildlife Preserve
Located in Point Arena, approximately 30 miles south on Highway One, the B.Bryan Wildlife Preserve has been actively committed to the breeding and preservation of African Hoof Stock for the last 5 years. The animals, ranging from endangered to critically endangered, include various species of zebra, giraffe and antelope. A great day trip; you can also visit the Point Arena Lighthouse while you’re there! They are open to the public for tours in the late afternoon during feeding time. Reservations required, call your innkeeper for more information or to set up a tour.

Ride the Skunk Train

Ride the Skunk Train
The Skunk line runs 40 miles from Fort Bragg on the coast to Willits on US Highway 101. Along the way, the tracks cross some 30 bridges and trestles and pass through two deep mountain tunnels for a 3-4 hour ride. The train leaves every day at 10 am for Fort Braggand there is also the popular BBQ ride, which features a great BBQ dinner with the train ride, that departs at 3:30pm on Saturdays from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Whale Watching + Tours

Whale Watching & Tours
The California Grey Whales migrate past our part of the world December through April. You can spot the spouts of a pod swimming near the bluffs and maybe even catch a whale tail waving hello. For a closer view you can hop on Anchor Charter Boat's Trek II. The majestic and intelligent California Gray Whale is probably the best known of the great whales of the Northeastern Pacific and the species most frequently seen from the Trek II. The Mendo Meander

Start at Big River State Beach for some sun and sand then head up the steps near the historic Mendocino Presbyterian Church to wander the streets of Mendocino Village. Be sure to stop by one of the funnest shops on Main Street, Out of This World. The shop has great educational and science-themed toys, games, puzzles, gadgets, science kits, chemistry sets, robotics and more. Then sample some local licks... At the north end of town is one of the most unique beaches in the world, Glass Beach. Named for it's unique mix of sand and sea glass, the millions of sparkling multi-colored glass pieces have been worn smooth and polished by the pounding waves.
